Beware of Your Thought Life

God’s thoughts are absolutely amazing and magnificent. Yet, sown in the right heart, they release the potential within to reveal something far greater than we could ever imagine.
“Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.” – Mark 4:30-32.
As it has been stated above, mustard seeds grow into mighty plants, and thoughts are like those mustard seeds. Your heart is the soil that bears those thoughts God has for you, and it is so vital that you cultivate that soil properly and care for it. Thoughts are seeds but when your heart toys and plays with them, they take root in your heart. Your attitude and perspective are the first signs that a thought has sprouted and has begun influencing the surrounding environment of your heart. Your perspective/attitude will be influenced by each thought that remains in your heart. How you see and perceive something will ultimately determine your next actions or words. That is why it will be that your thoughts will then grow into actions and words into eventually the fruits of your life. Not all thoughts are good for the good thoughts come from God. There is such a thing called weeds and they are always trying to invade your thought life.
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” – 2 Corinthians 10:3-6.
The war against the enemy is not according to the flesh but of the spiritual side of this world. The enemy can only influence people through mind games and trickery. The enemy loves to attack people with mind games planting little thoughts or little seeds in their minds and hearts. This is why you need to cultivate and always be properly checking your heart for those seeds that they will not take root. Every seed and every thought that gets planted into your heart must be held captive until discerned. See, when you toy with a thought rather than holding it captive, you are allowing it to be sown into the soil of your heart. It is only a matter of seconds before it takes root. Where does sin start? In the heart as a small little thought that turns into a temptation which turns into an action that disobeys God. In fact, many addictions and sins start from an improperly managed thought life. You can blame no one but yourself at that point because you’re the one who allowed it in. You will always see every seed that comes into your heart but were you paying attention to it and guarding against it is the question that remains. Thankfully, God has mercy on us when we make those mistakes and are genuine about making a heart change to remove those plants before they can bear any more rotten fruit in your life. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” – John 10:10.
The enemy’s thoughts are like an invasive species. Invasive species are species that try to kill the native species and invade the environment of your thought life. See, an invasive species invades, and invasion has the purpose of taking over something for its own purpose and control. That’s what the enemy seeks to do in your life; to steal, kill, and destroy it. The enemy can only do that if he has access and control of your life. The thought life is the first place he attacks because it is the thoughts of your heart that spring the issues of life.
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” – Proverbs 4:23.
Why are God’s thoughts the native species in our hearts? Because it is God’s thoughts that belong and fit in your heart and should be native to your heart. Spiritually speaking, His seeds are also mustard seeds too. Jesus referred to a mustard seed in His parable, and mustard plants are actually good for feeding the soil. It also is a cover crop in which it will cover fields to choke out the weeds. In the same manner, God’s thoughts bring the renewal of our minds and choke out the weeds of this world. God’s thoughts will nourish your heart when you bear them. So overall, your thought life is one of the most important aspects of your life. That is where the enemy attacks the most in your life because he loves to play mind games and trickery so that he can influence you in his deceptive ways. Therefore, guard your heart and hold captive the seeds that try to enter it so that you may have a heart full of God’s thoughts and fields of His fruit and crops.
