God's Gentle Voice Part 2

The world we live in has a loud voice that can distract us and blur out God’s gentle voice. However, not only does the world have a loud voice, but so does your flesh. Your flesh can be very obnoxious and loud. It is always trying to convince you to do something that deep down in your spirit you know is wrong. You cannot hear God’s gentle voice by listening to your flesh. You listen to His gentle voice through your spirit that was renewed through Christ.

“For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” – Galatians 5:17.

Here are the differences between God’s voice and the flesh’s voice. God’s voice is gentle, peaceful, full of love, truth the moment it is spoken, and does not contradict the Word of God. The flesh’s voice is loud, lustful, selfish, chaotic, false, and it contradicts the Word of God. Since the flesh’s voice is false, it has to try to deceive you into thinking that it is true. It tries to justify itself through reasoning with itself and by any means possible. God’s voice does not have to justify itself because it is already just since it is the undeniable truth. Another thing to God’s gentle voice is that you have to listen. You can’t just do all the talking or how will you be able to hear a soft whisper? You must not only take time to converse with God, but also listen. Both are just as important.

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” – Psalms 46:10.

Don’t have doubts about hearing His gentle voice. It takes time and a relationship with Him to learn His voice. You can recognize a family member’s voice without even seeing them. In the same manner, you can get to that point with God where you just recognize His voice. “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” – John 10:27.

You learn God’s voice through relationship with Him; it is as simple as that. So overall, just be still and quiet keeping your heart and ears attentive to God. Push the loud voice of your flesh and the world aside so that you may meditate on Him. Remember, His voice is peace even in the midst of the storm, not chaos. So, as you develop and grow in your relationship with God, you will have an easier time recognizing and discerning His voice compared to anyone else’s.
