Integrity in Words

“Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.” – Psalms 25:21. The integrity of your words will preserve you by preserving and guarding your reputation for being true and faithful. It will also preserve the power and authority your words carry. So, when you understand why the integrity of your words is so important, it will cause you to understand why you should consider them before speaking them. There is a reason why God gave you two ears and one mouth so that you will listen and consider at a greater level rather than speaking without thinking. “Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil.” – Proverbs 4:25-27. What these verses are saying is that when you are considering what to say, let your words be straight and to the point without stirring up confusion by turning to the left or the right which will get you off track of what you are trying to convey. Then it says to ponder your feet because speaking words is like taking a step; therefore, if you give careful thought to what you are speaking and where you are stepping, you will be able to convey the power behind your words without causing trouble or speaking words you cannot keep. A good way to learn how to have integrity in your words is to keep your word regardless of the cost because it will help you better learn what you say and make you think before you say. If you make a poor decision and remain true to your word, it will teach you the lesson to consider and pray about something before actually committing to it. Therefore, when you learn this lesson and give your words careful thought, your words will mean so much more because they are full of integrity, and they are trustworthy. Then, if your words are true and they actually mean something, then how much more do your thanksgiving, praise, worship, authority, and all these things mean to God? They would mean a lot more revealing a whole new and greater level of your heart towards God. So overall, let your words be true and faithful so that they will have good integrity so that people and God may trust what you say. For having truthful words will allow your words to carry and convey much greater things.

Buildings have structural integrity, so they don’t collapse. Without that structural integrity, what would be supporting them then? Words are the same way. They need their own integrity so that they don’t deceive and collapse. If you were to remain inside a building but its structural integrity was weak, you wouldn’t trust that building to shelter you. You would want nothing to do with it. Therefore, just like words, how could you trust another person’s words if their integrity was weak? You would be very hesitant to trust them. If you lack that integrity, not only will people not trust you, but can God? See, you can trust God’s Word, but can God trust what you say?
