The Detail in God's Thoughts
“How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You.” – Psalms 139:17-18.
These verses explain God’s thoughts as a grain of sand, but have you ever thought about how much detail goes into just one grain of sand? Have you ever thought about how much detail is behind each and every single one of God’s thoughts? More than you will ever know. Don’t let something as tiny as a grain of sand fool you because it is the littlest of things that are the most precious. It is the littlest of things that contain the most detail and care. It is like a penny. How can you see the true value of the dollar if you can’t see the value of a penny when it is the pennies that make up the dollar? In the same way, if you cannot see the value in the littlest of things such as thoughts, then you won’t understand the true value that remains within them such as His love and His heart. It is in the smallest of details that you see the most value and care.
“Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all the herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.” – Mark 4:30-32.
Thoughts are like seeds. A seed contains so much potential and detail within them as they have the ability to grow into something far greater than what can be seen on the outside. When a seed is planted in the right soil, it will shoot out of the ground and prosper for the seed has all it needs to grow. That soil is your heart, and a willing heart is as rich soil. A seed is dormant until placed into the right conditions. In the same way, a thought is just a dormant seed waiting for a willing heart to bear it. When that thought comes alive, it grows into a strong and mighty plant bearing branches for the birds of the air and for others to partake of. Every plant is different and has so many features that work together. In the same way, there are so many details in each thought and how they vary. How great are the thoughts of the Lord! However, why are thoughts like seeds? It is because all it takes is a simple thought to sprout into a word or an action which then becomes a fruit. All of it starts from a thought. A structure isn’t built without the thoughts put into a plan or a blueprint. A mission isn’t accomplished without the thought of planning it. An action isn’t executed without the thought of it. Therefore, if one seed as small as a mustard seed can grow into a prosperous plant that affects the lives of its surroundings and the creatures who come and go past it, then how much greater would fields of them be? And if God’s thoughts are more numerous than the grains of sand on the beaches of this world, then just imagine the potential that remains within all of God’s thoughts. It is mind-blowing!
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11.
Now, just as there are different types of sand, there are also different types of thoughts. Plans, memories, ways, imagination, pictures of potential, and many more. These are all different types of thoughts and God has many different thoughts about you. Yet, all the thoughts God has for you have the intention to give you a future and a hope. They are all thoughts for your own well-being. God looks back on memories of you and Him, He thinks about your future planning it out and thinking about the way He will make for you. He is imagining you and Him spending time together and walking together along the journey of your life. He is thinking about you and the potential He has put on the inside of you. All those thoughts are seeds with their own potential just waiting for the right heart to bear them. If all those thoughts and seeds grew and bore fruit, then your life would be fields of God’s plans, memories, ways, and so much more prospering and producing fruit in your life.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “ For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8-9.
So overall, go and think of the best thoughts you have ever had and think about this. God’s smallest and littlest thoughts are greater than the best thoughts you have ever had in your life. To think that His thoughts are that great and to think that they are for you and your well-being should make your jaw drop. It is incomprehensible just how great the thoughts of the Lord are.
