The One who Prepares the Way

“In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the Lord; ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’” – Matthew 3:1-3.
John the Baptist was called and destined to prepare the way for Jesus. Some people will be called to be like John the Baptist in the way of preparing a way for someone else because of what God has called on that other person’s life. People will often think their calling of preparing the way is of a small value and often forgotten about. They think it is so little that it really means nothing. However, this is the opposite of the truth because it is so vital, important, and crucial that the preparation is completed. So, if you are called to do something like that, don’t think that it means nothing because though people might not see you or they might forget about you, don’t think for one moment that God has forgotten about you. God doesn’t forget the people who value the little things and the things that don’t bring fame, wealth, or anything in that regard. The people who are called to prepare the way are given a calling that truly is a blessing and a wonderful opportunity. Why? People who are called in this way will have to humble themselves so much that they are okay if they are forgotten by the world because their heart and care are on fulfilling what the Lord has given them to do.
“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?” – Luke 9:25.
They will know it is not worth destroying or losing sight of their identities in Christ for the whole world. They know that though the world may not see them, God sees them and values them highly because they are obedient with the things that are overlooked and seem so minuscule to the world. This greatly blesses the Lord and He truly does value those people more than they realize. It is just as great of a blessing to be the one preparing the way instead of being the other to walk it; the only difference is that it is a different blessing than those who walk the way prepared. Like a teacher, the greatest blessing a teacher can receive is to see their students rise not only to their level but greater. It blesses them not to walk the prepared way but to prepare the way for the next ones and the next generations. However, if these little things, like preparing the way, are never completed, then unfortunately it will cost the big things and everything. So overall, your assignment isn’t about how many big things you can do in your life or how much you do; rather, your assignment is about being faithful and obedient to what God gives you and calls you to do even if it seems so minuscule and obsolete. Some of the most minuscule things are the most important.
