You're God's Star

“Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” – Genesis 15:5.

God made a promise to Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars. We weren’t born of these descendants by blood but rather we were grafted in through faith in Christ that we may partake of the blessings of Abraham’s descendants.

“And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree.” – Romans 11:17. Therefore, through Christ, we are now His stars and apart of His family. However, what does it mean to be His star? There are three main things to this: the calling, the great commission, and being on fire for God. Let’s start with the calling.

“He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.” – Psalms 147:4.

Many are called, but who will answer? That is why we need to always be willing to say yes to whatever He asks of us. That is why we need to always be willing to be the light in the night sky regardless of what it costs us. One purpose everyone shares is that we are to be the light of the world. If we, the stars, cannot be the light in the night sky, then who will? The night sky is much larger than a star within it, but the light of a star, yet so small in the sky, is so bright that it can pierce the darkness of night even from afar. That is the kind of light that lies within us. Even in the darkness of this world, you have the authority and ability through Christ who strengthens you that you will be able to pierce the darkness to reach the lost people of the world so that they may see Christ within you. That leads into the great commission.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teach them to observe all things that I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” – Matthew 28:19-20.

If you never go and shine the light of Christ that is within you and be the star in the midst of the night sky, then how will the lost find refuge and safety in Christ? Stars didn’t just only serve the purpose of being a light in the night, they also served the purpose of being a way of navigation. Before satellites and modern technology, people would use the stars and constellations to navigate and find their direction. If no one shines their light, then there would be no possible way for the lost to navigate and find direction. While one star can guide someone, how much greater can a constellation of stars? That is the Body of Christ as we are one giant constellation leading to THE way, not A way. When Christ was born, the three wise men found Him through a star in the night sky.

“Saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” – Matthew 2:2.

They didn’t just see a star, they saw His star. In the same way, people don’t just see a normal star, they see God’s star that He formed. People will stargaze and when they see God’s stars, they will see the light of Christ within it. So finally, what actually are stars? Stars are burning balls of gas. They look like a giant glob of fire. This is who we are too. When a person is seeking the Lord truly and earnestly, they will begin to light up. They will be on fire for God. This fire is like a fire on the inside of you that just cannot be put out. If a star is not on fire, then where is the light? In the same way, if we are not on fire for God but rather cold and idle, then where is the light of Christ shining? So overall, where there is light, there is no darkness; where there is no light, there is darkness. What are you going to be, the star in the night sky or nothing in the night sky? For those who don’t shine blend into the night sky. Don’t conform to the night sky so that you can blend in. Stand out from the world so others may see you. No one can see the light if you are blending in. Part of being a follower of Christ is standing apart and being different from the rest of the world. People may hate you and people may persecute you, but Christ will never leave you.
